(LPAN) On July 17, 2026, the Ministry of National Defense organized a commemorative lecture to mark the 49th anniversary of the signing of the Lao-Vietnam Treaty of Amity and Comprehensive Cooperation (July 18, 1977–July 18, 2026). The lecture was delivered by Major General Sengmanivone Khammany, Deputy General Director of the General Political Department. The event was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense, representatives from the four General Departments, the Ministry of National Defense’s Office, unit commanders of neighboring departments, and military officers and enlisted personnel. Major General Sengmanivone Khammany recalled the long-standing tradition of solidarity between Laos and Vietnam. This relationship was elevated and forged by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane, and President Souphanouvong, and has been continuously nurtured by successive generations of leaders and the peoples of both nations. Today, it stands as an exceptionally pure relationship, rare in international relations and an invaluable heritage for both the Lao and Vietnamese nations. The lecture aimed to reflect on the traditional solidarity between Laos and Vietnam and to celebrate this historic occasion in a vibrant and meaningful manner. Furthermore, the event served to promote and educate military officers and enlisted personnel, deepening their understanding of the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, and encouraging them to further cultivate and flourish this enduring bond.
