SARAJEVO, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The three new members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Denis Becirovic, Zeljka Cvijanovic and Zeljko Komsic, took office at an inauguration ceremony on Wednesday. Cvijanovic is the first woman to be elected to the position of Chair of the Presidency since 1996. The position of Chair rotates between the three members every eight months. "I arrived here with an open mind and good intentions, committed to the first priority of BiH -- to continue its efforts to join the European Union," Cvijanovic told foreign ambassadors and Bosnian officials at the inauguration ceremony. "We need an open dialogue on all issues. If we want others to respect us, we have to respect ourselves and build bridges of cooperation inside BiH and towards other countries in the region and beyond," said Cvijanovic, a member of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD). Meanwhile, Zeljko Komsic said he would do all he could to achieve the goal of BiH becoming a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This is a priority for BiH, as is joining the European Union. Komsic has already been in office four times, since he also served in the previous four-year term, as well as in two more terms between 2006 and 2014. He is the founder and president of the Democratic Front (DF). Denis Becirovic said BiH needs to aim for the freedom, equality, and dignity of all its citizens. "It is time to build a better future together. Let us turn to the politics of peace and boost our economy together," said Becirovic, a member of the Social Democratic Party of BiH. The three members of the Presidency of BiH were elected on October 2, along with the president and two vice-presidents of the entity Republika Srpska. The president of the other entity, the Federation of BiH, is elected by this entity's parliament. These are the eighth general elections since 1996. The Constitution of BiH was created as a part of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH, also known as the Dayton peace agreement, which put an end to the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia.
