ANKARA ($1=18.62 Turkish Liras) — Russian S-400s are ready for use in Turkey. Ankara will use the systems if necessary, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on NTV. Akar said that the S-400 is ready for use on the spot, it will be installed when any threat appears, RIA Novosti reports. He also added that Ankara is making efforts to buy F-16 fighter jets from the US, but there is an alternative if the deal falls through. On September 12 this year, Turkish President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan again threatened to turn to Russia if the US does not sell the F-16 Block 70/72 fighter jets that Turkey wants. Erdogan made the “threat” through an interview in a Turkish newspaper. “The United States is not alone in selling fighter jets. The United Kingdom, France, and Russia are also selling them. It is possible to get it elsewhere and some are already sending us signals,” Erdogan said. Russia and Turkey 2017 signed the first contract for the S400 batteries worth $ 2.5 billion with an option to purchase another battery. Deliveries of the first regiment to the Turkish side were made in the summer and autumn of 2019. TASS agency reported on August 17 that Russia and Turkey have signed a second contract for the supply of the Russian anti-missile system S-400. Then, the same day, a representative of the Turkish Ministry of Defense did not confirm the information of the TASS agency. “So we have no specific news worth reporting. The process [delivery of system components] continues and there are no new agreements,” the Turkish politician added. Recall that Washington offered Ankara to abandon the S-400 for $100 billion, but Turkey did not agree to the proposal. Moreover, Turkey intends to purchase additional batches of S-400s from Russia in the future. The United States actively tried to prevent Turkey from buying S-400 air defense systems from Russia and repeatedly threatened to refuse the sale of F-35 fighter bombers, but Ankara made it clear that the issue of buying Russian systems was closed. Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the supply of Russian S-400 air defense systems is an internal affair of Turkey, they do not bear a negative attitude towards NATO.
