(KPL) On October 10, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his delegation during their visit to attend the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane. The meeting was part of discussions surrounding the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits hosted by Laos.
Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay expressed a warm welcome to Lavrov and praised Russia's participation in the summit, emphasizing that their involvement further enhances the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between Laos and Russia. Both sides reviewed past cooperation, noting that political and security ties have continued to grow stronger, with close exchanges and mutual support in regional and international matters.
The discussions covered a wide range of bilateral cooperation areas, including finance, culture, tourism, education, astronautics, energy, and railway transportation. In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Minister Lavrov expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and extended his congratulations to Laos on its ASEAN Chairmanship, wishing the Lao PDR success in its role as host of the 2024 ASEAN Summits.
